By starting out slow, cutting down on your plate size, and portions you will realize that your appetite is sated, and there isn't any reason to go back for another helping.


2. Most of us do not realize how much our beverages contribute to our calorie consumption. Beverages sweetened with sugar are a big culprit in the obesity epidemic. When we think of losing weight and cutting calories, our beverages are not usually high on our priority list. A simply frappuccino, from Starbucks can average a whopping 600 calories! By switching to clear refreshing water or green tea can help ease the weight loss process. Try it.

3. When we do our food shopping we are usually used to picking and choosing "whatever" our heart desires, without thinking if it has any nutritional value. Our new rule would be to carefully look over the labels and content of the product. If the first word in product description is not food, it isn't for you. Focusing more on fresh foods rather than processed foods will make your body energetic and much happier.

4. An easy switch would be to change all dairy products to reduced and low fat varieties. The compromise really is not a big difference in flavor, but the less fat in your diet always has its benefits, especially for your heart.


5. On our plate fruits and vegetables should make the biggest impression on your plate, followed by about one-quarter amount of protein (lean meats like chicken, turkey), and lastly, one-quarter amount of whole grains, as in pasta, rice or breads.

6. One of the best changes we can do for ourselves is to increase our activity level. By taking our dog for a walk, mowing the lawn and even gardening, we burn calories. As you burn calories, and eat less we begin to see the weight loss process.

It is easy to see that making some simple changes, in our busy lives, can greatly change us into a new person. The areas that I have outlined, once incorporated into your lifestyle, will give you the confidence to be on the road to a new and improved you.
